spoke up, taking an empty platter from Dillon and heading for
the sink. Beth joined her in clearing the table.
SCARCITY HOLIDAYS 73
Oh, no way. We ll compromise. While the others go in and
get things ready for the gifts, we ll do a quick clean in here. We ll
put up the things that we need to, rinse things off, and make some
more coffee for later. I ll do most of it later, but we don t want to
miss this next part. Dillon insisted. He really needed to go back
to his usual role of doing for the others, to be rid of the reminders
of last night s extreme emotions and fears.
That s what they did. Dillon and Jack and J s sweet fiancées
made quick work of the cleanup and were soon in the great room
with everyone else.
Tommy stood by the tree and got everyone s attention.
I want to start this by asking Soldier and Dillon to come up
here.
Dillon looked at Soldier, a question in his eyes. This was not
the way it usually went. Soldier shrugged and pulled Dillon off
the couch where he d just gotten settled.
We did something a little different this year for your gift.
Instead of all of us getting you something separately, we all went
in together and got you one big gift. Tommy reached into his
back pocket and pulled out an envelope. He handed it to Soldier,
who opened it and showed it to Dillon.
You two are going on vacation, alone together, for two
weeks, in the middle of January. We have booked you on a cruise,
a gay-friendly cruise by the way, so you can relax and enjoy being
together with total freedom. I don t remember you ever taking a
vacation. You seldom even went out on dates. We all think it s
time you had a honeymoon. Don t think we didn t notice the
matching rings. Did we miss something? Tommy teased.
Dillon was stunned and he could tell that Soldier was, too.
A vacation, just the two of them, and for two whole weeks! How
could they do that?
Daniel spoke up now. Don t even start with the excuses.
Tommy and I will live over here for those two weeks and take
over for you here. Everyone will pitch in and make sure that the
74 AKM Miles
boys are taken care of, no matter how many there are. We ve all
talked about it and we wanted to do this for you.
Dillon looked around at all the expectant faces. He didn t
know what to say. He glanced at Soldier to see if he was faring
any better.
Soldier put his arm around Dillon and faced their family. I
don t think a vacation ever occurred to either of us. Now that
you ve done this, the idea is growing on me. I can t believe you
all came up with this, but let me tell you, I m in. The idea of two
weeks with Dillon makes me very happy. Thank you so much.
Dillon nodded and added, What he said. Everybody
laughed and he ducked his head. He turned and yelped when
Soldier picked him up and swung him around in front of the tree.
We re going on vacation, Dillon. How cool is that?
Pretty damn cool.
After that, they got down to the business of Christmas at
Scarcity with gifts and laughter and real joy. Dillon took Trick
aside and told him that he had another gift coming later in
the week, but didn t tell him what it was. He didn t want Trick
thinking that what happened last night at the bank was his fault.
Soldier and Dillon sat in the corner of the couch and watched
the chaos. Dillon snuggled into Soldier and they held hands,
their rings glowing in the lights from the tree. There was a lot
to be happy about on this beautiful Christmas morning. The
exchanging of gifts seemed endless with a group this big, but it all
came down to one thing. Christmas was family and that was one
thing they did really well at Scarcity Sanctuary.
About the Author
AKM Miles loves to read M/M. She loves to write. She loves
characters. A good story line is great, she figures, but if you don t
care anything about the characters, why would you care what
happens to them? That s pretty much why and how she writes.
She loves, absolutely loves, to hear from readers. She s quite
tickled when the emails she gets all say something along the lines
of& When is Daniel going to get a story? or I m still waiting
for Gom s story? What about Randy, that Brack and Austin
helped. Will he get a story, too? and You are going to write one
about Mark and Wade, aren t you?
That shows that people love the characters in AKM s books
and that s why she writes. She loves it when readers love her guys.
Often called for being too mushy or romantic or sweet and told
that guys don t talk like that, she replies, Actually, yes, they do.
Her motto is ***love is love*** and she believes that guys do feel
deeply and care deeply and if they re happy people, they don t
mind sharing that love. It s a good thing.
